Heinz was founded in 1869 by Henry John Heinz in Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania. And the company quickly became a firm favourite here in the UK.
It’s known for selling plenty of different sauces – from ketchup to mustard, mayonnaise, salad cream and BBQ dip. But some of the most popular Heinz items come in cans – and one food reviewer made it her mission to try all of them.
Becca filmed her brutally honest verdict of 19 different Heinz meals. She splashed out £30 on the products and then got to work taste testing each one.
“There’s 19 meals to try ranked from worst to best, so let’s review it,” she said before jumping in to try the first can, which was baked beans without added sugar.
She ranked this particular product last, complaining: “Oh, no no no no no no, that is disgusting. I don’t even – that doesn’t even taste like tomato. That’s just this sourness, I think is clove. That’s a minus one out of ten.”
Then almost as bad were the hoops, which she described as “minging”. She added: “These are nothing like they used to be. When I was a kid, these were delicious. The sauce is like sweet water. That’s a zero out of 10.”

Another can that didn’t impress Becca was the spaghetti, which she gave as measly 2/10. But thankfully, everything else performed a bit better.
In the middle of the pack – scoring a rather average 5.5/10 – were the mac and cheese, vegan bean and sausage, as well as the classic baked beans.
Becca added: “I just find Heinz beans a little bit watery in terms of flavour and they don’t have that nice tomato richness that I kind of would expect for the price that I’m paying.”
But it was the Alphabetti that shocked her – as they were the first pasta item that had a nice flavour and came in at 6.5/10. She added: “It could do with a better tomato flavour, though I know I’m not the target audience for this. And it is a good thing that they reduce the sugar and salt for kids.”

Starting off the top ten of Becca’s list were the beef ravioli, which also got a mediocre 6.5/10. She the sauce was okay with a nice tomato base – but the whole meal was a bit bland.
Becca added: “I do like the pasta, it’s cooked really well. It is quite thick. I would potentially have this again if it was like on offer. But I don’t think I’d be paying full price for it.”
The spaghetti carbonara fared better, as did the Cathedral City cheesy beans and five beans cans. The latter placed in seventh after earning the first 8/10 score, followed by the peri peri beans.
Kicking off the top five was the tikka beans, the barbecue beans, and classic beans with pork sausages, which all earned 8.5/10 each. Then earning the second place was spaghetti Bolognese, which earned a high score of 9/10.
So which tin reigned supreme? Becca gushed: “Finally, in first place is the spaghetti with Richmond pork sausages.” She described the flavour as comforting – before also scoring it a 9 out of 10.
Nothing received a perfect score of 10 – but we’ll give Becca one seeing as she was so dedicated to her Heinz experiment!
