Though it may now be January, Hull New Theatre has every reason to still be riding a wave of festive cheer following a record-breaking run of its pantomime Goldilocks And The Three Bears.
Featuring Strictly Come Dancing star Brendan Cole and panto favourite Neil Hurst, the production saw an impressive average turnout of 1,108 attendees for each of its 34 performances.
Besides delivering fantastic festive entertainment, the show also provided a financial boon, raking in an extra £40,000 for the Box Office compared to the previous season while a staggering 13,500 tubs of ice cream were also sold.
Adding to the celebrations, a notable 7 per cent of the audience were first-timers at the Kingston Square venue – an encouraging sign for Hull’s cultural future.
Claire Elsdon, theatre and halls manager, said: “Covid had a devastating impact on live theatre and the last few years have, at times, been a real challenge. However, we’ve worked hard to reassure our audiences and to provide a programme that excites and inspires them, so it’s great to see so many families choosing to share the joy of panto together.”
Anticipation is already building for the next panto – Beauty And The Beast – which will run between December 10 and 31 at Hull New Theatre. Though the cast remains under wraps, expectations are high for another successful run.
