Hull men have ‘smallest feet in England’ says shoe retailer

Men in Hull have the “smallest feet in England” according to a national shoe retailer.

Analysis of more than half a million Shoezone sales from 68 cities has revealed more than a quarter of men in Hull wear the smallest shoes at a size 6-7, while less than a tenth of sales are for larger sizes 12 and 13. Overall, more than 40 per cent of sales of men’s shoes in Hull were for a below-average shoe size

Across the UK, men have an average shoe size of 9, with women averaging at a size 6.

Across England, smaller feet seem to be a trend among Northern men, with Manchester coming out in second place. Nearly a quarter of men’s shoe sales in Manchester are a size 6 or 7.

The smallest feet of all on average were north of the border with Dundee topping the league for both men and women.

It’s not exclusively a northern phenomenon though, with London also ranking in the top 5 cities for small feet in the UK.

On the other end of the scale is Winchester with nearly one in six men wearing a size 12-13. This is followed by Southend-on-Sea and Lincoln with nearly one in seven wearing the larger sizes.

Meanwhile, though Hull didn’t make the top ten for either largest or smallest feet for women, English women overall have the largest feet in the UK as the nation’s cities take all the top ten spots. Women from Lichfield have the biggest feet on average, with more than a quarter of sales made up of the largest shoe sizes.

A spokesperson for Shoezone said: “In order to find where in the UK has the biggest and smallest feet, we analysed data of over half a million shoe sales, across 68 British cities. No matter how old you are, everyone should ensure their feet are measured accurately so that they’re wearing the correct size to support their feet.”
