Hull KR seek new board addition with director’s departure explained

Hull KR chairman Paul Sewell has confirmed that the club are on the lookout for a new addition to the club’s board following the departure of Ian Richardson.

Since Sewell’s arrival in 2022, the club has gone through the process of assembling a board to drive the club forward, which has come with plenty of success during their first two years together.

Richardson, an expert in the healthcare and law sectors, has stepped down after retiring from his other business roles. He has departed on good terms, and Rovers are now keen to identify a new person who can bring additional expertise to a board that already has plenty of resources at its disposal.

Dr Sewell said: “Ian has made a significant contribution at a pivotal time in our development. His calm and considered approach will be a hard act to follow. We will look for someone who fits the culture and shares our values and passion for revitalising the club, the wider game, and hence the community.”

In discussing his departure, Richardson encouraged any interested parties to get involved in the club’s future.

“I have really enjoyed my two years on the board and would highly recommend the experience,” he said. “An exciting potential is being realised, and I will follow future progress with pride and fondness.”

Working alongside owner Neil Hudgell and chief executive Paul Lakin, the board already includes David Kilburn, the co-founder of MKM Building Supplies, James McNicol, managing director of London-based Oil Brokerage Ltd, and Becky Oughtibridge, director of professional services at Sewell Group.

Off the field, Rovers are currently executing a plan to develop the 15 acres surrounding Sewell Group Craven Park, which has already seen a 3G community pitch open. Moving forward, retail outlets are set to be introduced, as well as enhanced training facilities and renovations to the stadium, as well as green space and further benefits for the community.

“Everything we are doing is about creating sustainability going forward,” Sewell added. “You can only spend so much on the team so what we are also doing is investing in the culture and values.

“This is a hugely exciting project and a once in a generation opportunity that is vitally important for the area, local community and for the club.”
