Hull FC youngster suffers ACL blow in cruel training injury

Hull FC youngster Roman Dawson has ruptured his ACL for a second time and could miss the entire 2025 season. The teenager, who Hull Live first reported had signed a senior deal for this year and beyond, has only just recovered from his first rupture but is now set for another lengthy rehab process.

Dawson first suffered the injury while playing for the club’s reserves side against Huddersfield Giants at the start of April and was understood to be progressing well, having made a running return late last summer. He was around 95% fit and in good shape, with the player opening up to Hull Live about his rehab journey in an interview last October. However, Hull Live understands he has recently suffered another big blow in training, rupturing the ligament again with a lengthy rehab and recovery process now to take place.

The full rehab process for an ACL rupture is around nine months, potentially ruling Dawson out for the entire season. He is expected to be operated on later this month, with the club’s medical staff overseeing his rehab, which will be led by new head physiotherapist Andy Shea.

Dawson has previously played on the wing, at centre, and in the back row for the club’s academy and reserves sides and is now receiving the necessary support from the club. He was one of several players to sign senior deals ahead of the 2025 season and has been training alongside the first-team squad this pre-season as part of the club’s Elite Talent Group.
