Hull City will sanction the departure of winger Ryan Longman this month with a deal in principle agreed with Championship rivals Oxford United.
U’s boss Gary Rowett took Longman to Millwall last summer and remains a big fan of the 24-year-old now he’s moved to the Kassam Stadium, breathing fresh life into their hopes of staying in the Championship.
Longman will be allowed to leave City, but not before the Tigers bring in at least one winger in the next two weeks with the club in talks with three potential arrivals, one of which has been frustratingly close for a number of days.
The 24-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and has not been offered fresh terms at the MKM Stadium, but City will get a fee from their Championship relegation rivals.
Since returning to the MKM Stadium in the summer after his season-long loan in Bermondsey, Longman has played nine times with his solitary goal coming at Blackburn Rovers in the final away outing of 2024 to secure a vital 1-0 win.
Longman’s season has been hampered by injury, having picked up a dislocated shoulder in the final pre-season outing of the summer at Ruben Selles’ Reading, before hurting his groin at Ewood Park late last month, which has kept him out of the last three games.
The winger was one of Acun Ilicali’s first signings after taking over almost three years ago, when the Tigers made his loan move from Brighton and Hove Albion permanent, before former boss Liam Rosenior allowed him to leave to join Millwall.
He was set to leave last summer with the Lions keen to take him back to The Den, while Derby County were also eyeing a deal, but City opted to keep him having struggled to sign wingers until the final weeks of the summer window, and then he suffered his injury setback which kept him sidelined for three months.
In total, Longman has played 82 times in Black and Amber, scoring eight goals with five assists. Across his 116 Championship games, Longman has bagged 10 goals and picked up eight assists.
His departure is one of many expected this month, following on from the exits of Marvin Mehlem and Will Jarvis, with Chris Bedia and Anthony Racioppi told they can leave the club, while Middlesbrough want Ryan Giles back at the Riverside Stadium.
