A new footpath on a Walsall bridge has cost taxpayers £650,000. Works on the A34 Green Lane bridge near Cable Drive were completed in November.
A three-metre-wide pedestrian footway on the bridge’s eastern side aims to provide safer access to Homeserve and other businesses on the estate without crossing the busy road.

It was paid for by the Bloxwich Town Deal. The grant was awarded to Walsall Council by the Minister of Housing, Communities and Local Government in 2021 for the purposes of levelling up towns and cities around the country.
The works were carried out by Currall Lewis & Martin Construction Ltd in partnership with Tarmac and the West Midlands Combined Authority.
Deputy leader of Walsall Council, councillor Adrian Andrew, said: “This is one of the numerous active travel improvements that have been or will be, delivered by the Town Deal.
“Engagement with local businesses in the area showed that the lack of safe pedestrian access is a barrier for local employees, so we hope that widening the bridge to create a new footpath will help improve access for people who work in the area. It’s great to see the finished bridge and you can really tell what a difference the scheme has made.”
