How are Joe Tate and Noah Dingle related on Emmerdale as fans ‘rumble’ real plan

Monday’s episode of Emmerdale saw Joe Tate attempt to build bridges with Noah Dingle.

During the latest instalment, Joe, who returned over Christmas, offered his younger brother Noah VIP tickets to a Leeds match. However, Noah’s mother, Charity Dingle, was horrified over the lavish gesture and Joe worming his way back into Noah’s life.

In a desperate attempt to protect her son, Charity asked Ross Barton to warn Joe off. Soap watchers will recall Joe’s backstory and family link to Noah but for new viewers it may come as a surprise. Here, we explain Joe’s family tree and history…

Actor Ned Porteous made his first appearance in the village as Joe back in 2017 as the orphaned son of Christopher Tate and Rachel Hughes.

Twelve years after initially leaving the village, Joe returned to Emmerdale, using the alias Tom Waterhouse in 2017. It wasn’t long until he struck up a relationship with Charity’s daughter Debbie Dingle using his fake alias Tom as part of his revenge against Charity.

Joe blamed Charity for his dad Chris’ death, who was married to Charity, after he poisoned his own drink in 2003 in order to frame her for murder following her affair with Cain Dingle.

Charity welcomed son Noah in 2004, months on from his biological father Chris’ death, making Noah related to Joe as his younger brother.

However, Joe’s true identity was soon revealed where he evicted Debbie and her children while ending their relationship, cruelly admitting she was just collateral damage in his revenge plan against Charity.

Not long after, Joe bought back his childhood property, Home Farm, and moved in, where he made up with Debbie and got close to his half-brother Noah.

Back in 2018, Joe had an explosive exit after he was forced to go on the run after Kim, who had been married to his grandfather Frank Tate, ordered his death.

At first, it appeared that Debbie’s father Cain had accidentally killed him following a row, where one single punch saw him hitting his head on a rock. However, it was soon revealed that Joe’s right-hand man Graham Foster had actually covered up the truth that Joe was still alive and he was on the run abroad, living off money from Kim’s companies.

Joe returned last month over the Christmas episodes but it appears he’s hiding a big secret as the character has been sparking concern with his health. Joe has been seen taking various medication and on Friday’s episode, Joe collapsed to the floor and suffered a seizure.

Amid Joe’s health woes, some soap watchers are wondering whether Joe is wanting to make brother Noah the heir to his fortune. Taking to Twitter, now X, one person said: “I wonder if Charity were to discover that Joe is terminally ill and Noah is his heir will she have a change of attitude. #emmerdale” while another added: “Joe content! Yay! Tate brothers unite!”
