Households in these 109 areas put on alert as 45 hours of snow to hit in hours

Millions are set to endure an icy blast as the Met Office issues a yellow weather warning for swathes of the country. Weather experts have placed England, Scotland, and Wales on alert, highlighting 109 areas that could be impacted from January 4, beginning at midday.

The cold snap is anticipated to persist until Monday, January 6, at 9am, making for a freezing 45 hours, according to reports by the Express. Potential power cuts and disruption to mobile phone coverage loom over the weekend, with rural communities facing the threat of being cut off.

The Met Office has issued cautions: “Heavy snow may cause some disruption over the weekend.”

“There is a small chance power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected. There is a slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off. There is a chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel.”

“Outbreaks of rain spreading northeastwards later on Saturday and overnight into Sunday will likely be preceded by a spell of snow on its northern flank.”

Households across affected regions have been advised to prepare for potential power cuts and travel disruptions. With the weather situation liable to ‘change quickly’, those within the warning areas should keep abreast of the latest updates as the weekend draws near.
