A house fire in Somerset has led to a road closure and residents being told to stay indoors and keep the windows and doors closed. The incident is reported to have happened at around 10pm last night in Westonzoyland and multiple fire engines were dispatched to the scene.
Fire crews arrived to find the derelict house engulfed in flames. Avon and Somerset Police took the decision to close the A372 while fire crews tackled the incident.
The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue website states: “Crews from Taunton, Bridgwater, Glastonbury, Nether Stowey and Street responded to several calls of a fire in a derelict property on Fore Street, Westonzoyland just after 10pm.
“On arrival, fire crews found the derelict detached house to be well alight with smoke and flames issuing from the front of the building. The property consists of a two-storey building and a number of outbuildings with the main house completely engulfed in flames. An aerial ladder platform, three 45 ML jets and the water bowser are in use by the crews tackling the blaze.
