Parts of the North East have been hit with heavy snow and icy conditions this weekend – but the wintry weather is set to continue tomorrow.
A Met Office amber snow warning has been in place throughout Sunday and extended to 6am on Monday, warning of heavy snowfall in areas of our region. A yellow weather warning for snow and ice was also put in place from midday on Saturday, January 4 and remains in place until midnight on Sunday, January 5.
The Met Office also issued a new yellow weather warning on Sunday, which runs up until midday on Monday, January 6. It covers County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside and Sunderland.
As we head into the early hours of Monday morning, parts of the North East can expect heavy rain – which is predicted to last all day – as well as strong winds. Temperatures could hit 1°C with winds hitting up to 40mph on Monday night.
