Merseyside is currently under a yellow weather warning for snow and ice after the Met Office issued yet another alert for the region. An amber warning was in place for much of the weekend, as the region saw heavy snowfall and travel disruption.
The Met Office’s amber warning for snow and ice only ended at midnight on Sunday, January 5 and was immediately replaced by a yellow warning for the same weather conditions, which will remain in place until midday on Monday, January 6. A yellow weather warning from the forecaster is one that has “a high likelihood and a low impact”, in comparison to the more severe amber and red warnings seen in recent weeks.
Forecasters have warned of further snow in places, along with icy stretches, leading to some disruption, especially to travel. A weather warning on the Met Office website says: “Snow will become more sporadic during Monday morning. Icy stretches are likely to develop quite widely, making for some difficult travelling conditions.”
The weather warning was issued at 10.22am on Sunday, January 5 and came after heavy snowfall over Merseyside overnight on Saturday, with road closures and travel delays affecting large parts of the region. Here’s the latest hour-by-hour forecast for Liverpool on Monday, January 6:

What should I do?
The Met Office offered advice for keeping safe during a yellow weather warning for snow and ice. It said: “Snowy, wintry weather can cause delays and make driving conditions dangerous. Keep yourself and others safe by planning your route, giving yourself extra time for your journey. Check for road closures or delays to public transport and amend plans if necessary.
“If driving, make sure you have some essentials in your car in the event of any delays (e.g., warm clothing, food, water, a blanket, a torch, ice scraper/de-icer, a warning triangle, high visibility vest and an in-car phone charger). Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.
“Keep yourself and your family safe when it is icy. Plan to leave the house at least five minutes earlier than normal. Not needing to rush, reduces your risk of accidents, slips, and falls. If you need to make a journey on foot, try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery. Similarly, if cycling, try and stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated. Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.”
