Temperatures are set to plummet across Leicestershire today with forecasters warning of bitter conditions ahead of weekend snowfall. The Met Office has said parts of the county will experience temperatures that feel as low as -3C, following a feeling last night (Thursday, January 2) of -7C.
A yellow weather warning has been issued for Leicestershire, with the Met Office warning of “possible” significant snow and potential travel disruption. Forecasters say parts of the county could see up to 5cm of snow “fairly widely” on Saturday (January 4).
The warning, which covers Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, will be in place from noon on Saturday until 9am on Monday (January 6). The Met Office said there was a “slight chance” that some rural communities could become cut off.

A Met Office spokesperson said today (Friday, January 3) will see a “cold, frosty morning followed by a largely fine day with sunny spells.” They added that isolated wintry showers were possible, mainly in the west of the county.
Today’s temperatures will peak at just 4C between 2pm and 3pm, though westerly winds will make it feel significantly colder. The Met Office forecast shows 1C at 10am, rising to 2C by 11am, before reaching its peak in the mid-afternoon and dropping back to 1C by late evening.
