Greater Manchester supermarket announces temporary changes as part of big plans

A top supermarket is investing millions into a Greater Manchester store – marking its largest investment in a single store upgrade across the country in years.

Asda has announced its Pilsworth store in Bury will receive a huge £2m upgrade, which will see improvements to ‘the overarching look and feel of the store’ as well as a focus on providing an easier shopping experience with interactive aisles and feature lighting.

Work is due to begin on the upgrades this weekend, which means there will be some changes to the store’s opening hours – which have been adjusted throughout the week as a result.

The Bury store, on Pilsworth Road in Unsworth, will now open from 7am to 10pm on Monday and from 6am to 10pm from Tuesdays to Saturday. On Sunday, the store will be open from 10.30am to 4.30pm.

Set to be fully unveiled in March, the ‘simpler customer layout’ revamp will also include a new Wines & Spirits zone, as well as a revamp to the existing Food Hall including new low-level fridges for produce. There will also be an enhanced George department.

Across the store, the upgrade will see feature lighting and new overhead signing installed. There will also be a new Rewards vending machine to help customers take advantage of deals and offers in-store.

Asda has said the works will be carried out across seven weeks, with sections of the store set to temporarily close at different times while work is carried out. Clear signage will be in place to help customers navigate around the store throughout the works.

The upgrade will mark the largest investment for the supermarket in a single store since it revamped the Leyton Mills store in London back in 2021.

A spokesperson for Asda said: “This £2 million investment in upgrading our Pilsworth store is focused on improving the shopping experience for hard-working families in the local community and our colleagues. We want shopping Asda Price to be as convenient and enjoyable as possible for all customers.”

In our weekly comparison list of eight staple items, including bread, milk and butter, at the six leading supermarkets in the country, Asda came out second in the list.
