Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid return date confirmed after urgent demand

Susanna Reid is set to return to Good Morning Britain soon after a notable break from the programme. The 54-year-old anchor expressed her gratitude to viewers in early December, announcing she would be taking an extended holiday over Christmas.

Following a three-week hiatus, Susanna announced her comeback this week, sharing a photo of a glowing candle on Instagram with the message: “Happy New Year! See you on Monday.”

Kate Garraway filled in for Susanna, co-hosting alongside Richard Madeley during her absence. However, Susanna’s time away and the temporary hosting duo of Kate, aged 57, and Richard, aged 68, did not sit well with some viewers who voiced their discontent on social media, reports the Express.

One viewer expressed frustration on X, stating: “Not coming up on GMB, Susanna Reid. Paid a salary of £1,100,000 to host this dross three mornings a week. But not for the next three weeks obviously.”

Another viewer reeled: “Susanna worked on Sunday’s show yesterday and now has to take 3 weeks off!” While another remarked: “Susanna on her Christmas break already.”

In announcing her break, Susanna highlighted a positive aspect, saying: “Ending on a positive note, our amazing 1 Million Minutes campaign – I just want to say thank you to everybody who has pledged their minutes to the campaign.

“We have a special programme on Christmas Day but this is my last chance to say thank you to you before Christmas because it is my last programme before Christmas Day.”

As she concluded the show, she added: “Good Morning Britain back tomorrow from 6am. Have a happy Christmas from me, I’ll see you on Christmas Day.”

Susanna was at the helm of Good Morning Britain’s festive special alongside Kate and Ed Balls on Christmas Day. During the episode, the trio shared a live on-air hug, which Ed declared as a highlight of his year. Susanna joked: “All your Christmases have come at once! Yes, let’s do it” while Ed excitedly said: “Oh my Gosh, it’s a miracle.”

The host went on: “Come on, we started the programme, wondering whether it might ever happen so here we go.” They then stood up from their desks for a warm group hug on the show, exclaiming: “Happy, happy Christmas.”

Kate couldn’t resist commenting: “That’s a moment for us all” while Ed confessed: “You’ve made my year. How many times have you said you’d do that?”

At this point, Kate cautioned the former politician: “Don’t think of it in 2025 though, it’s a one-off for Christmas.”

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays on ITV from 6am.
