Glasgow west end business owner uses TikTok to boost sales at his Partick plant shop

A Partick business owner has told of how he uses social media platform TikTok to boost sales at his west end plant and furniture shop.

Jordan Trainer owns Plantique on Dumbarton Road but is often live streaming until 9 or 10pm at night selling his gorgeous plants and furniture.

The 25-year-old says that sometimes going live at night makes all the difference, by allowing him to sell his products to a larger audience and raising the profile of his little green shop.

Jordan told Glasgow Live: “I’m not really one to put myself out there too much, but I was struggling and the shop was quite quiet.

“So I was thinking of ways to try and get more customers in, so I thought I’d give it a go. If no one saw it, it wouldn’t matter, I wasn’t going to lose anything.

“I thought, I’d just go live and it went form there. It’s a bit like QVC, but in the modern times people can see what I’m selling and ask questions. It’s a free platform and it really helps by business especially during quiet times.

“I’m a bit late to be joining it, lots were on it during lockdown, but I only started this year. You can sometimes make a day’s worth of money in just two or three hours.

“If I’ve not had a good day, I can rely on it to help me pay my bills and it’s just been a really good thing for me.”

Jordan, from Cambuslang, has had his Dumbarton Road shop for around two years now but has been operating a plant business for 10 years which started as a hobby. He also has a stall at Byres Road Market at Hillhead Library.

He has since been a big part of the local community, using his shop as a pop up space for other local businesses and even staying open on Christmas to offer a space for those looking for some company.

And he believes the app has allowed him to open his business up to a bigger market and new customers.

“It works well for me,” he added. “It makes customers more confident about buying something because they can see you selling it in person and it’s not just pressing a button, and I think that’s why it’s popular.

“Everyday, someone comes in and says they’ve seen me on TikTok, and it’s people who may never have seen my shop that are coming in. It’s really good for any business, because people will see it and if you’re local it does pop up.”

You can visit Jordan, and his dog Princes on 268 Dumbarton Road and see what he has to offer online here.
