Glasgow Southside pub The Laurieston declared ‘one of the best in Europe’

Iconic Glasgow southside pub, The Laurieston, has been ranked as one of the best pubs in Europe.

The pub is famous for its incredible atmosphere, use as a filming location and, of course, a destination in any good sub crawl. However, according to The European Bar Guide, it’s also one of the continent’s best venues.

Ranking it at number 32 in it’s Top 100 Bars in Europe 2025 list, The Laurieston is described as “A frozen in time 60’s boozer hidden behind an unprepossessing exterior!

“A wonderful, friendly, communal pub with simple, wholesome delights.”

The Bridge Street pub was the highest ranked Scottish venue on the list – which included boozers from all over Europe.

In March 2024, the well-loved pub was bought over by a “private investor” after being on the market. The new owners pledged to keep it running the same way as it has for the last 40 years.

It was stated by Christie & Co. that a member of the Clancy family will remain involved to ensure the pub remains the same as it has for the last four decades.

Thanks to its charm, The Laurieston has featured in movies such as Ewan McGregor’s 2003 film Young Adam and the BAFTA-nominated film Wild Rose, starring Jessie Buckley. It has also featured in music videos for The Fratellis and Franz Ferdinand.

In summer 2024, the pub enhanced its offerings by opening a beer garden and inviting punters for an “ice cold pint” in the sun.
