Glasgow rail passengers face weekend disruption due to strikes and engineering works

Glasgow rail passengers have been warned to expect disruption this weekend due to industrial action and engineering works.

Engineering works on the west coast mainline mean services will not be able to run directly between Glasgow Central and London Euston on Saturday, January 11, and Sunday, January 12.

Avanti West Coast will run services between Glasgow and Carlisle. From there passengers will be put on a replacement bus service to Preston where services will run to London Euston.

TransPennine Express trains between Manchester Airport and Glasgow Central will run between Manchester Airport and Lancaster only. A seperate service will run between Carlisle and Glasgow.

Replacement busses will run between Lancaster and Carlisle.

On Sunday, TransPennine services between Manchester Airport and Glasgow Central will run between Manchester Airport and Preston only. A separate service will run between Carlisle and Glasgow Central.

A replacement bus service will run between Preston and Carlisle.

Furthermore on Sunday, strike action on Avanti West Coast trains means they will be running a “significantly reduced” timetable.

A spokesperson for the firm said: “We plan to run four trains per hour to and from London Euston: one to each of Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Preston.

“We’ll also run a very limited service between Glasgow and Carlisle, with replacement buses running between Carlisle and Preston due to planned engineering work.”

Avanti West Coast has urged anyone planning to travel on Sunday to check before they travel.

Also on Sunday, ScotRail services between Glasgow Queen Street and Alloa will be disrupted due to engineering works. Buses will replace trains to Linlithgow and Alloa.
