A Glasgow M&S has got permission to put a large fridge near its West End store during an “exceptionally busy” time to make sure shelves have a full range of products.
The refrigerated container would be placed near the West End Retail Park shop every year between November 1 and January 31 during the festive period.
Measuring 12.9 metres in length and 2.4 metres wide with a height of 2.9 metres the container would provide storage for the supermarket.
A planning statement from the national retailer said: “Similar to other retailers, there has been a significant increase in the demand M&S experiences every year over the peak Christmas period.
“This places significant pressure on the back-room storage space within the store. Having a temporary storage facility on site will allow customers’ food orders to be stored in appropriate conditions in advance of collection as well as providing much needed storage space to enable colleagues to maintain the supply of goods by replenishing the shelves on a regular basis throughout the day.”

Glasgow City Council granted permission for the planning application for the siting of the steel structure last month.
The statement added: “The proposed siting of the temporary container will cause no obstruction to the store.”
It continued: “By virtue of the scale and temporary nature it is considered that the impact of the proposed container will be minimal on the existing store and its surroundings.”
