Glasgow was the hot topic of conversation in the House of Commons, with Keir Starmer dubbing it “a great city”.
The Prime Minister congratulated the city on its 850th anniversary on Wednesday afternoon. He added that Glaswegians “have made and will continue to make a huge contribution to this country”.
Labour’s Glasgow West MP had asked Starmer if “People Make Glasgow” during Prime Minister’s Questions, the Daily Record reports.
Ferguson said: “This year marks the 850th anniversary of my home city of Glasgow.
“One of the key aims of the celebration is speed up ambitions around the city council’s grand challenge: tackling poverty and inequality and increasing prosperity and opportunity. Themes that chime very clearly with this Government’s agenda too.
“Will the Prime Minister join with me in congratulating Glasgow on this milestone and does he agree with me that people really do make Glasgow?”
Starmer replied: “Glasgow’s a great city and I’m very happy to join with her in congratulating the people of Glasgow on the 850th anniversary. They have made and will continue to make a huge contribution to this country.”

People Make Glasgow is a slogan which can be seen across the city. It was created in 2014 and is visible on the old College of Building and Printing in the city centre.
Labour took all six Glasgow seats at last year’s general election. It marked a sharp change in fortune from the 2019 election, where the SNP won all seven seats.
Starmer has faced demonstrations from Gaza protesters when visiting Scotland’s largest city.
