Glasgow bound trains impacted by travel disruption as public urged to plan ahead

Train services across the country have been impacted by major disruption today with travellers urged to plan ahead.

ScotRail, TransPennine Express and Avanti West Coast have been hit with issues on their lines today following harsh weather conditions and signalling faults.

Network Rail are currently dealing with a signalling and telecoms fault affecting ScotRail services between Langbank and Gourock/Weymss Bay.

As a result, Gourock services have been withdrawn, while Glasgow Central to Weymss Bay services will terminate at Bishopton. Meanwhile, Weymss Bay to Glasgow services will start at Bishopton.

Engineers are currently on scene trying to resolve the issue.

Bus replacements are also in place for ScotRail services Glasgow Queen Street and Alloa, calling at Bishopbriggs, Lenzie, Croy, Larbert and Stirling and Glasgow Queen Street and Linlithgow, calling at Croy, Falkirk High and Polmont. This is due to engineering works – more on that here.

On top of this, TransPennine Express (TPE) issued a ‘do not travel’ warning to passengers using the following routes: Manchester Airport – Glasgow Central and Edinburgh via Preston and Manchester Airport – Leeds – York and Newcastle.

This is due to no bus replacement services being able to run for the planned engineering work due to the heavy snowfall which is severely impacting roads and has led to the suspension of bus operations across the Pennines and North West.

Customers with tickets across the affected routes can defer their journeys, and any tickets already purchased for travel today (Sunday January 5) will be valid on Monday 6 January or a full refund can be obtained at tpexpress.co.uk/help/refunds.

Various Avanti West Coast services have also been hit by disruption this weekend, with poor weather affecting LNER services. Travellers can check their journey here.
