Some Glasgow bin collections could be missed as “wintery conditions” hit the service the council has warned.
The city has seen a cold spell and people have complained about their bins not being lifted on social media.
A yellow weather warning for ice has been issued for Glasgow from 4pm today (Friday) until 10am on Saturday.
A statement posted by Glasgow City Council said: “Wintery conditions across the city could have an impact on bin collections today (3 January 2025). Please leave your bin out if it is due to be collected today and it will be emptied as soon as possible.”
People have replied to the post on social media voicing concern about problems with bins being emptied.
One person said: “G33 Riddrie green bins last emptied 12 December and not due again until 23 January- absolutely disgusting! Blue bins have similar dates as well. The wait between bin collections are becoming a joke.”
Another resident claimed: “Still waiting on my purple bin to be emptied, it’s been out since 24th December, when it was supposed to be lifted.”
A woman commented: “My green and blue bins in Kingspark are not due to be emptied till Friday 10 January. Both are full and I’m now having to put stuff at the side of my bins.”
However another resident was happy with the service. She said: “Thanks to the team of gritters and the waste disposal team who have just done our estate (G44). Much appreciated.”
Commenting on the council’s Facebook page, other people claimed there has not been enough gritting.
One person posted: “I’m in Crown Gardens G42 it’s like a rink in here.”
A woman added: “Maybe the gritters should have been out, no roads gritted yesterday or today, we’ve been warned about the cold spell for days. Treacherous trying to get to work this morning.”
Glasgow City Council have been approached for comment.
