Generous families, students and staff at Cleethorpes Academy donated more than £5,000 of produce to charities in a Christmas collection.
Principal Paul Thundercliffe said it was a “true sign of the community coming together” and had marked the end of a hectic last week of term. Each year group had recognition assemblies where students were toasted for the hard work and attendance.
More than 10% of the student cohort was involved in a Christmas show which played to a packed out and excited primary school audience before an exhilarating show in the evening. Principal of Reynolds Academy Becky Scott said pupils returned “absolutely buzzing” after watching the show which included a live band, dance, cheerleading, a choir and the whole audience involved in 12 Days of Christmas.
Mr Thundercliffe said after a Christmas lunch in the new dining room and a rewards trip to the cinema, the last day of term was a fitting end to a great week. Students and staff wore non-uniform in return for a donation to local foodbank charities.
The results were overwhelming with more than £5,000 worth of produce being donated to local food banks run by We are One and The Rock Foundation. Mr Thundercliffe was proud of the efforts.
“I knew it could be special, but everybody has gone above and beyond and we’ve collected so much more than I thought we would,” he said. “It is a true sign of a school community coming together.”
The day ended with the first ever whole-school assembly where songs, surprises and prizes were the order of the day. Students were entered into a mega draw to win prizes including an iPad and a 40” TV.
The atmosphere was electric with student Caleb Weatherly saying it was the “best assembly ever”. Vice Principal Vicky Watts summed it up, saying: “It’s been a great week; such a positive atmosphere.”
