A fundraiser has been launched for a Glasgow family who have ‘lost everything’ in a devastating blaze that killed their cat.
Emergency services rushed to Fairbairn Path in Bridgeton at around 4.45pm on Saturday, January 11, as black plumes of smoke could be seen from across the city.
Three people were evacuated as firefighters spent four hours bringing the fire under control. It is understood that a child was among the casualties treated by paramedics, and that the family’s cat, Harry, lost his life.
Neighbour Chloe Bruce has now launched a GoFundMe to help the family whose child lost ‘their best friend’ in the blaze which tore through the roof of the house.
The fundraiser reads: “Hi, my name is Chloe, on the 11th of January 2025, at 4:30pm, roughly, my neighbour’s house tragically caught fire; they lost absolutely everything inside, including their little cat Harry.
“They are a young family with a 10-year-old boy who’s lost his best friend and his childhood home along with everything they got for Christmas.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 4.45pm on Saturday, January 11, to reports of a dwelling fire on Fairbairn Path, Glasgow. Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances to the scene. There were three casualties, including one child, who were taken into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service. Sadly, one cat died at the scene.
“Crews left the scene at around 8.50pm after ensuring the area was made safe.”
