River levels in Nottinghamshire are continuing to rise after snow and heavy rainfall, with people being warned to act. As of 8.15am on Wednesday, January 8, 25 flood warnings and 13 flood alerts were in place in and around Nottinghamshire.
The Environment Agency has urged people to “remain vigilant” and warned the River Trent was yet to peak. The river was running at more than 1.5m above the top of the “normal range” at 8.15am on January 8.
A spokesperson for the East Midlands Environment Agency said: “We urge people to remain vigilant and advise anyone travelling to be especially careful. We also urge people to stay away from swollen rivers and not to drive through flood water as just 30cm of flowing water is enough to move your car.”
A flood warning, means flooding is “expected” and people should “act now” with a flood alert meaning that flooding is “possible and people should prepare”.
