For the second time in a week Merseyrail has activated its cold weather plan meaning its first services tomorrow morning, Wednesday January 8, will run without passengers. Merseyside is currently under a yellow weather warning for snow and ice which is expected to last until noon tomorrow, Wednesday, January 8.
There is currently major disruption on the Chester and Ellesmere Port lines due to flooding. Merseyrail said running the first services without passengers allows for rail conditions to be checked. Today’s weather warning is the latest in a series that have been issued for Merseyside this week, with the worst – a rare amber warning for snow and ice – covering the region last weekend.
The Met Office said: “Afternoon and evening showers will slowly ease back to coasts Irish Sea coasts, allowing ice to form on untreated surfaces inland. Showers will be a wintry mix, with 1-2cm accumulating on ground above about 200 m before they begin to ease.”
