Full list of Derbyshire flood warnings and alerts still in place

Derbyshire residents in a number of towns and villages are still being advised to travel with caution following a week of rain and snow across the county. A number of flood alerts and warnings remain in place around the region following widespread flooding in recent days, particularly in the south of the county.

Most of the warnings were issued by the Environment Agency on Sunday, January 5, after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for rain over the weekend. South Derbyshire residents will possibly be affected, while the disruption in Derby and across the north of the county is set to be fairly minor.

The heavy flooding and snow over the last week has caused well-known routes to be closed, including the A617, Winnats Pass, and Haslams Lane in Darley Abbey, although these roads have since reopened. A flood alert means that flooding is possible, whereas a flood warning means it is expected. A spokesperson for the Met Office has shared various ways to stay safe in the event of a flood.

A statement from the forecaster reads: “Heavy rainfall can cause flooding. This can be dangerous and can happen very quickly. The effects can be devastating. A flood plan can help you to prepare for flooding and reduce the impact it might have to your home, business or community, it can also help with the recovery process.”

It urges those who may be affected to think about putting together an emergency flood kit with essential items that will help cope in a flood. These items include insurance documents and a list of contact numbers, a torch and spare batteries, a first aid kit and any prescription medicines, warm waterproof clothes and blankets, bottled water and snacks, a battery or wind-up radio and supplies for looking after your baby or pet.

The forecaster added: “Make sure that everyone knows where to find this kit and what to do if flooding happens.” You can view the full list of Derbyshire flood warnings and alerts in place, correct as of 7am (Friday, January 10), below:
