A Derbyshire bridge has been closed by police this evening (Tuesday) after an alarming rise in the level of the River Trent. Floods have been plaguing Repton Bridge, in Willington, for the last few days.
Now, police said there is a closure in place at both the Willington and Repton ends. Highways officers are in charge of the incident, they added, and will decide when reopening is safe.
The bridge is likely to remain shut overnight, they said. Derbyshire Police have warned people not to ignore the signs which say the road is closed.
Mercia and Hilton Police SNT said: “Due to the recent River Trent rising and gradually creating floods on Repton Bridge, this area is now closed both Willington and Repton ends. Highways will monitor the situation and act accordingly.
“The flood levels suggest that this will be closed overnight. DO NOT ignore closure signs.”

“Do not ignore, there is no access across.”
There was a flood warning – meaning flooding expected – posted for the River Trent at Willington around Repton Road by the Environment Agency earlier today (January 7).
