Police have made an arrest after a fleeing man shut the A50. Officers say a suspect had to be ‘brought to safety’ while the dual carriageway was closed in both directions.
StokeonTrentLive reported how the A50 was left ‘blocked in both directions’ just before 5pm on New Year’s Day. At the time traffic monitoring site Inrix reported how there was a ‘police incident’ near to the Fenton turning.
Now Staffordshire Police have confirmed how officers had first been called to a property in Fenton following reports of a ‘disturbance’ at 1.45pm yesterday.
A spokesman said: “Officers went to the scene and detained a man. He ran away and went on to the A50. A short time later, the man was brought to safety.”
Subsequently a 29-year-old man, of Stoke-on-Trent, was arrested on suspicion of theft from the person of another. The spokesman added: “He remains in custody while enquiries continue.”
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service added: “We were called to an incident on the A50.
“A specialist paramedic attended the scene. Upon arrival, no patients required treatment from ambulance staff.”
