Five youths charged after ‘widely’ shared Cumbernauld anti-social behaviour and ‘weapons’ images

Five youths have been charged in connection with ‘widely circulated’ images shared on social media of alleged anti-social behaviour in Cumbernauld.

The images included people allegedly being in possession of weapons, police said. Patrols have been stepped-up, with police saying the ‘robust’ patrols will continue in the coming weeks.

Five youths, all male, have been identified by community officers and charged with various offences. Police said the behaviour “will not be tolerated.”

The images, which police said were shared “widely” on social media, allegedly showed people engaging in anti-social behaviour and allegedly being in possession of weapons. A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Community Officers in Cumbernauld have been carrying out enquiries following widely circulated images on social media platforms of persons engaging in Anti-Social Behaviour and being in possession of weapons.

“Five male youths have since been identified and charged with various offences in relation to the matter. This type of behaviour will not be tolerated, and it continues to be treated as a local priority.

“Robust directed patrols have been conducted and will continue in the coming weeks.”
