Five children charged after images of ‘anti-social behaviour and weapons’ shared in Cumbernauld

Five children have been charged after social media images of alleged anti-social behaviour were “widely circulated” in Cumbernauld.

Community Officers in Cumbernauld say ‘robust’ patrols have been conducted and will continue to be carried out in the coming weeks as enquiries continue into the alleged incidents of anti-social behaviour and possession of offensive weapons.

Three teenage boys, aged 13, one aged 14, and a 12-year-old boy have been charged with various offences in relation to the matter.

Police said this type of behaviour “will not be tolerated” and the alleged offences continue to be treated as a “local priority”.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Community Officers in Cumbernauld have been carrying out enquiries following widely circulated images on social media platforms of persons engaging in anti-social behaviour and being in possession of weapons.

“Five male youths have since been identified and charged with various offences in relation to the matter. This type of behaviour will not be tolerated, and it continues to be treated as a local priority.

“Robust directed patrols have been conducted and will continue in the coming weeks.”

People are urged to report anti-social behaviour to police via 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
