Hungry?
A woman who was about to enjoy a fish dinner with her family made a unappetising and somewhat horrifying discovery. Brazilian businesswoman Paula Moreira has found viral fame when she shared a video of her dinner – a large fish which had a set of human like choppers.
Paula posted the video, which has been viewed more than 5.2million times, on her Instagram account, showing the freaking fish lying on the grill while her family were on holiday in southeastern Brazil.
The mum filmed herself manipulating the fish’s mouth to flash the set of creepy teeth, exclaiming: “teeth like that? Like dentures? Look here!”
Would you want to eat this?
Paula the pulled down the fish’s lower lip, to display a full row of gnashers. “They look like human teeth, no kidding,” she said, astonished.
Paula said the fish was one of three her family bought for $49 (£40) on December 30 after they had gone to the beach with her grandmother.
Everyone was in ignorant bliss that the fish was sporting some nifty choppers – until they returned to their holiday rental and started preparing dinner.
Paula opted out of seeing what the creature tasted like
Paula said: “I wash shocked when I saw that fish. I thought it was so bizarre and funny at the same time. That’s why I took my phone and recorded that video and posted at my Instagram account.”
Paula’s uncle seasoned the fisherman with garlic and salt before grilling it for 30 minutes, yet Paula skipped eating the toothy fish, staying it reminded her of a “human being”.
She was too weirded out by the animal’s human-like teeth
She said: “I didn’t have courage to eat it. But my family ate it and they told me it tasted like fish, just like the others, and it is really good.”
As freaky as it may be, nature gave Sheepshead sea bream a strong set of pearly whites for a reason.
Marine biologist João Gasparani told a local news outlet that the fish, which can grow up to 35 inches and weigh up to a hefty 35 pounds, needs its teeth to eat shellfish.
Is an overbite cute on a fish?
He said: “It has strong incisors that look like human teeth. This is due to evolution.
“The animal eats shellfish, even pulling mussels and mussels out of rocks, so it needs very strong teeth. It also has teeth on the roof of its mouth, and these teeth are all rounded, so it crushes shells, snails and crabs.”
