Edinburgh welcomed its first baby of the year just minutes after the Hogmanay bells rang out.
The newcomer was one of many ‘first babies’ to arrive across Scotland at the beginning of 2025.
A baby boy was the first to come into the world as ecstatic parents shared images of their newborns, the Daily Record reports.
Amy McGibbon, 30, welcomed her little one into the world at three minutes past midnight. Archie was born at the Princes Royal Maternity in Glasgow and weighed in at a healthy 4.14 kilograms.
His dad Nathan Parry, 34, looked on proudly as Archie became Scotland’s first new born of the year.

Edinburgh’s first New Year baby was Alexander James Glover who was born at 12:41am and weighed in at 2.35 kilogram.
Parents Katie and Jonny Glover welcomed their little bundle of joy into the world at the Simpson’s Centre for Reproductive Health at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
Katia said: “We are over the moon with the arrival of our baby boy! He came a little early, which was a lovely surprise. Jonny is still away working abroad, but we can’t wait for him to meet his son.”
Amelia Kelsey was the first baby of the year to arrive in Fife at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy at 5.04am. Born to first-time parents David, 35, and Emma, 27, weighing 8lb2.

“When it got to the early hours of the morning we were hoping she might be the first baby in Scotland in 2025 but we’re still very excited!” David told the Record.
“It will be such a nice thing to show her when she’s older and will be treasuring the moment. We’re already home and it we only live five minutes away from the hospital so it was a short trip!”
While the first boy to be born in Fife was Brodie Moir at 6.32am to parents Emma, 30, and Stevie, 31, from Crossford, who already have a two-year-old girl called Halle. He weighed 7lb 2oz.
“Emma’s due date was December 21 so Brodie is very late! Emma had to be induced last night. We thought we were going to have a Christmas baby but we’ve got a New Years Day baby so it’s come as a bit of a surprise!
“The midwives gave us gifts and it was all very special but we’re just pleased that he is happy, healthy and here with us.”
Proud parents Jade and John Guthrie from Kilwinning welcomed their son Caleb into the world at 1:45am as he became Ayrshire’s first arrival of the year.

Caleb was born at Ayrshire Maternity Unit at University Hospital Crosshouse, weighing 3.88kg, and is his mum and dad’s first child.
While at 2:44am, Hayley Barclay and Rhian Baird from Irvine welcomed a son. Weighing 3935g, he is a little brother for two-year-old sister Riley.
Next to arrive was a yet to be named baby boy for Jane and Toby Lindo from Fairlie, who made his way into the world at 3.22am weighing 3543g.
Kilmarnock family Sophie Leigh Wallace and Stephanie Traynor welcomed their first born, a son Kai Ian Oscar Traynor at 4:55am, weighing 3340g.
In Aberdeen couple Charlotte and Charlie Anthony welcomed baby boy Garbriel at 1:47am, weighing in at 9lbs 4oz.
