Fire breaks out on tenth floor of Moortown high-rise tower block

One person has been injured in a high-rise fire in Moortown earlier this morning.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) were called to the tower block fire at Alderton Heights, Moortown, Leeds, at 9.30am today. The fire was quickly put out by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.

The fire was isolated to one flat on the tenth floor of the building. One person was injured in the fire and left under the care of the Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

Fire crews have remained on the scene through the day so far to assist residents and to collect their equipment. According to the fire services, there were six appliances and one aerial platform in attendance.

Crews attended from Cookridge Fire Station, Leeds Fire Station, Stanningley Fire Station, Rothwell Fire Station, Rawdon Fire Station and Hunslet Fire Station.

WYFRS said: “Fire crews were called to reports of a high-rise building fire at Alderton Heights, Moortown just before 9:30am this morning (26 December). Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly extinguished the fire, which was isolated to one flat on the 10th floor.

“One casualty was left in the care of Yorkshire Ambulance Service. Crews remain on scene assisting residents and making up equipment”
