Fire crews rushed to the Port of Cork in Ringaskiddy this morning after a blaze broke out onboard a ship.
Emergency services were alerted to a fire at a container ship in the Deepwater Berth and crews from Carrigaline Fire Service, Crosshaven Fire Service, Gardaí, East Cork Rapid Response and the National Ambulance Service rushed to the scene.
It’s understood the blaze broke out as a result of a fault of cargo handling equipment on board the bulk vessel.

Fire crews quickly had the flames under control and thankfully, there were no injuries reported. An ambulance was deployed on standby due to the serious nature of the incident.
A spokesperson for the Port of Cork said: “This morning Sat 11th Jan, there was a fault with a piece of cargo handling equipment on board a bulk vessel at Ringaskiddy Deep Water Berth. All personnel are safe. Fire services are on site and the situation is under control.”
