The family of the couple killed in the Blanchardstown crash have made a special request ahead of their funeral.
Anthony Hogg, 40, and his wife Georgina Hogg-Moore, 39, were knocked by and killed by a car while crossing a road close to Blanchardstown Shopping Centre last Thursday, 26 December 2024, at approximately 5.45pm. It is believed that the parents-of-two had been shopping in the St Stephen’s Day sales at the shopping centre, and were going home when the incident took place.
Georgina was pronounced dead at the scene, while her husband Anthony was rushed to hospital but later died from his injuries. The couple, who have two children Ryan and Becky, are understood to have gotten married in recent years and lived in the Whitestown area nearby.
The couple will be laid to rest on Friday, 3 January 2025, with their family asking those who are attending the funeral to wear bright colours. They explained that this was to “reflect both Anto and Georgina’s personalities”.
Their funeral notice on RIP.ie reads: “Anto and Georgina Hogg (née Moore) (Blanchardstown and Kilbarrack, Dublin ) December 26th, 2024, (tragically), cherished mother and father of Ryan and Becky-Joy, beloved children of Valerie, Jackie and the late George and Paul and dear brother and sister of Peter, Caitriona, Julie, Emma, Damo, Yvonne, Jen, Katie, Paulie, Ross, Arron and Kirstie. Sadly missed by their loving families, relatives, friends and Ben and Kai.
“Removal to the Church of St. Philip the Apostle, Mountview on Friday morning (January 3rd) arriving for Requiem Mass at 11am followed by a celebration of their lives in Dardistown Crematorium at 1.30pm.” The notice also requested that only family flowers be given.
Tributes have poured in for the couple following their passing. One mourner wrote: “So hard to put into words. Georgina and Anto’s passing has shook the entire nation. Condolences to their two children and to their families and friends. I pray you find strength to get through this difficult time.”
Another penned: “Beyond sad that this beautiful couple lost their lives condolences to their family especially their children who are left without their mammy and daddy may they both rest in peace”. A third added: “Prayers from Galway to the families and friends of Anto and Georgina, God rest them both. My heart is broken for you all, very hard to put into words how sorry l am that you are going through so much sorrow, so very sorry for your loss. I am praying for you all since this awful accident happened. They are together now in Heaven side by side.”
And a fourth wrote: “I am so terribly sorry on the senseless loss of both Anto and Georgina, my heart is broken for you all. What a beautiful couple, a bond that will never be broken. Your children will remain a constant on my mind, may God grant them strength.”
John Halpin, 45, was arrested after he presented himself at Blanchardstown Garda Station later in the evening. He was later charged with dangerous driving causing the deaths of the husband and wife.
The accused made no application for bail when he appeared before Judge Michele Finan at Dublin District Court on Monday. A woman was also arrested during the Garda investigation but has since been released without charge.
A GoFundMe has been launched to help support the couple’s children, so far €55,015 has been raised out of the €65,000 target. To donate, head here.
