A Cork family say they have been left “gobsmacked” by the level of kindness and generosity from their friends and local community to help a young man get the cancer care he needs.
The sister of Tyrone Murphy, who was diagnosed with a brain stem tumour and needs to seek treatment abroad, said last night that her family would like to thank “every single person that donated” to her fundraiser to help her brother.
On behalf of the grateful Macroom family, Chloe Ní Murchaidhe said the show of support from the community has been “heartwarming,” after thinking that “never in a million years did we expect to reach our target goal, let alone exceed it.”
She said that while there are “no words to express” their gratitude, it has been “extremely heartwarming to see that as a community how everyone rallied around to support one of their own.”

In a matter of hours, generous donors to the GoFundMe page raised well over its €15,000 target to get the 26-year-old to Manchester to begin life-saving radiation treatment. The loving sister described Tyrone as a “hard-working, honest, family-oriented young man.”
Tyrone is a first responder and EMT with the Critical Macroom CFR Group. The group described him as having the “biggest heart” with “a strong belief in giving back to his community by volunteering to help others.”
In a touching social media update last night, Chloe shared a sweet selfie of her with her brother and said that with the help of the community, all “champ” Tyrone has to do now is wait for a date to travel.
Chloe wrote: “As a family, we would like to thank every single person that, donated, shared our fundraiser, messaged and rang us. We cannot believe the amount of love that has poured in the last 24 hours for Tyrone. We are gobsmacked at how willing people are to help.
“It’s obvious how well thought of Tyrone is, and it’s touching to see such love and support flooding in for him. It’s such a cliche but they’re really are no words to express our gratitude. Never in a million years did we expect to reach our target goal, let alone exceed it as far as we have.
“It’s extremely heartwarming to see that as a community how everyone rallied around to support one of their own. All that’s left to do now is await Tyrone’s start date, and he’s ready to go. On behalf of my whole family please accept this message as a Thank you to every single person….. Now Tyrone lets go champ!”
