Exeter City’s Millenic Alli nominated for League One player of the month

Millenic Alli’s superb form in December has seen him shortlisted for the Sky Bet League One player of the month.

The 24-year-old, who signed from Halifax last January, started the month with a goal in the 2-2 draw with Wycombe at St James Park.

He then scored a sensational winner from 20 yards at Burton Albion on December 21 and followed that up with the equaliser in a 2-1 win over Bristol Rovers on Boxing Day and a goal in the 4-4 draw with Crawley Town three days later.

An EFL statement read: “At 24, Alli has come late to the EFL. His acceleration and impressive upper body strength makes him hard for full-backs to stop, while his four goals and an assist in a free-flowing Exeter team included stunning strikes versus Burton and Crawley.”

Alli faces stiff competition to win the award, though. He is up against Leyton Orient defender Omar Beckles, who scored twice and helped the O’s keep six clean sheets in the month; Charlton striker Miles Leaburn, scorer of four goals and two assists and Grecians Academy product Jay Stansfield. The now-Birmingham City striker scored five goals in the month.

The winners of the Sky Bet player and manager awards for December will be announced on Friday.
