Exactly how cold it is set to get in North Wales as temperatures plummet

North Wales is set to endure three days of snow this weekend with the Met Office also warning of ice over the next 24 hours. Up to a foot of snow could fall over parts of Wales.

The Met Office has issued a three-day weather warning for North Wales, and said as much as 30cm of snow could drop on higher ground. The yellow warning comes into force at 12pm on Saturday, January 4 and remains in place until 9am on Monday, January 6.

Temperatures are set to drop on Thursday, with blustery winds and wintry showers overtaking the wet and windy weather we have seen over the last few days.

A yellow weather warning for ice which came into force at 4pm on Wednesday, January 1, is set to last until 10am on Thursday, January 2.

Valley

A few showers this evening, these turning wintry over the hills but becoming confined to western coastal areas overnight. Most places becoming dry and turning mainly clear allowing a widespread frost and some ice in places, especially in the north. Minimum temperature -3 °C.

Thursday will see a frosty start on a cold day with plenty of sunshine for most. Wintry showers in western areas at times, especially on Anglesey, Gwynedd and Pembrokeshire. Breezy at times on coasts. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

There will be sunny intervals and wintry showers on Friday. Probably turning wetter over the weekend with disruptive snow possible, especially on hills. Cold at first, but perhaps turning somewhat milder on Sunday.

Llanrwst

Tonight there will be a few isolated showers during the early part of the night, these wintry on the hills. Any showers will soon ease to leave a largely dry and cold night.

Tomorrow (Thursday) will be a largely dry and bright day with plenty of winter sunshine. There is the chance of the odd light shower drifting in from the north at times.

Friday will remain cold with bright spells for most, but also the odd shower drifting in from the north-west at times, wintry on the hills. Some bright spells around to start on Saturday, but it will drop to 1C at 8am on Saturday though cloud cover will build in later on.

Llangollen

Tonight (Wednesday) there will be cold and icy night under clear skies. Tomorrow (Thursday) will be a bright and chilly day. It will remain dry throughout the day and there will be plenty of winter sunshine.

Friday will remain cold with temperatures dropping to -2C but with bright spells for most. But there will also be the odd shower drifting in from the north-west at times, wintry on the hills.

Aberystwyth

Temperatures will fall to 3°C tonight (Wednesday) before continuing to get colder with lows of -1°C by 7am on Thursday.

Temperatures on Thursday won’t warm up as much as other places, with midday set to hit 3°C but fall to 0°C again by 7pm. Midnight temperatures will be around -1°C. There will be highs of 5°C at midday on Friday.
