Ex-Hull FC pair involved in biting allegation as red card shown in pre-season clash

Ex-Hull FC pair Connor Wynne and Jeylan Hodgson were involved in an ugly-looking incident while playing for Featherstone Rovers and Goole Vikings on Tuesday night.

The two clubs met in a pre-season fixture, which Featherstone won 46-6 in what was Goole’s first ever game as a professional club. However, it has now come to light that Wynne was allegedly bitten in the clash that saw the outside back sent off for a retaliating punch. Wynne’s partner has since shared images of his finger post-match with the former Hull youngster, who Hull Live has previously reported is attracting interest from Hull KR for the 2026 season, clearly injured from the incident.

The claim is that Hodgson bit Wynne’s finger while the latter was tackling him, with the former Hull hooker, who left the club for Goole at the end of last season, placed on report. The incident will now be looked at by the RFL, who are yet to comment.

Featherstone, meanwhile, had to play the final 14 minutes of the clash with 12 men, with Wynne, following his red card, having his finger sewn back together by the club’s medical staff. The images of Wynne’s finger were posted by the player’s girlfriend, Abbie Haywood, in reply to a tweet from the official Featherstone account reporting on the red card.

With Hodgson placed on report, the RFL will fully look into the incident in the coming days and weeks. However, biting allegations and charges are taken very seriously. In 2018, then Toronto Wolfpack player Jack Bussey received an eight-game ban for biting the ear of an opposition player from Toulouse Olympique.

Last year, Hull KR half-back Mikey Lewis accused Catalans Dragons counterpart Cesar Rouge of biting at the Magic Weekend. That incident was further looked at, with the Frenchman avoiding further action after review footage cleared him of any offence.
