England flood warnings mapped as people in 173 locations told 'act now'

Brits have been warned to prepare for disastrous weather after more than 100 locations were issued with flood alerts.

The Environment Agency has issued 165 flood warnings across England which told people to ‘act now’. The agency also confirmed 315 flood alerts, meaning where flooding is possible. The warning comes after areas including Warrington were recently swamped by excessive levels of water.

Resident Caroline McClymont experienced flooding in the area on New Year’s Day. “Everything is destroyed. Nothing could be saved,” she told The Guardian. “It’ll take six, seven months to get right again.” Areas in North Wales have also endured severe flooding. There are currently two flood warnings in Wales and 34 flood alerts.

Sadly, the extreme conditions are far from over as Brits are now facing travel disruption. The flooding coincides with one of the busiest days of the year as Brits return to work. Thousands of drivers have been impacted after the M25 in Surrey closed in the anti-clockwise direction from junction 10 for the A3 to junction eight for Reigate following a lorry crash.

The M5 in Gloucestershire is also shut southbound from junction 11A for Gloucester to junction 12 for Quedgeley because of extensive flooding. On top of that, several stretches of A-roads across England are also closed because of severe weather.
