A dog walker has been taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car in Newport. Emergency services were called to reports of a crash on Rowan Way, Newport, at around 6.35am on Monday, January 13.
Local resident Saul Evans said he was getting ready from work when he heard a loud crash and saw a car had come into his garden. He heard screaming and realised that a woman and her dog were trapped underneath the car.
He said: “It was about 6.23am and I could hear a car being driven very fast and then a crash. I looked out in my garden and there was a woman and her dog who were trapped underneath the car.
“I was on my own so shouted for the neighbours to waken up to come and help. Two nurses from the nearby nursing home came down to help. We had to wait for the fire service to come and move the car. I just hope that the lady is OK. I see her walking her dog a lot. It is an awful thing to have happened.”
Police officers from Gwent Police attended along with teams from the Welsh Ambulance Service, Welsh Air Ambulance and the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
