Elaine Crowley says one vegetable has been secret to weight loss and healthy skin

Elaine Crowley has revealed the secret to her incredible weight loss as the Cork woman admits one everyday vegetable has been working wonders for her skin.

Ahead of her Dancing with the Stars debut, Elaine previously revealed how she lost 4.5kg last year after taking a trip to Thailand to take part in a wellness programme.

The Virgin Media TV host revealed her secret to keeping her figure is celery, the Irish Mirror reports. She said: “It is so rich in everything. People say it tastes disgusting but stick with it for a week and your skin will start glowing.

“It’s in my diary of things to do and it is in my wellness journal. Psychologically and in my head, it makes a difference. I’ve been doing it since April after the last time I went to Thailand.”

She also credited Dancing With The Stars for keeping her fit. The North Cork native and her professional dancing partner Denys Samson took on the waltz to Three Times a Lady by The Commodores in last night’s show.

She said: “It is good to be fit. Forget the gym and climbing mountains, do a bit of dancing instead. It is great craic. I will probably keep it up after the show ends, just for fitness. I have had a bad back for years. I did Operation Transformation in 2017 and I had two discs out then.

“It has taken me a long time to get into any shape to do this. You feel great after dancing and the happy hormones boost through your body. That is what it is all about.

“I am using muscles I never thought I would. I haven’t weighed myself in ages, so I haven’t a clue what I weigh. My waist and around my bust have narrowed. Every year I say I am going to get fit. It just so happened that I started getting fit in December, so this is one year my resolution will actually come true,” she said.

Elaine also said former Dancing With The Stars contestant Brooke Scullion offered her some words of advice before the show tonight. She said: “Brooke Scullion did it in 2023 and she was presenting Ireland AM with me this morning.

“She was saying that it is really, really intense. I know that now. I am in it now, so I might as well enjoy it. I have no life to speak of apart from dancing or work. I am feeling it this weekend because I was up early for Ireland AM on Friday.

“I took Saturday and today off this weekend because there were loads of rehearsals. Going forward I will be working my normal week, but I will be taking Sundays off, for the first three weeks anyway,” she said, laughing.

She said she is having a great laugh on the show already. She added: “We [Kevin Dundon and Elaine] are like the bold children in the back of the classroom.

“All of the professionals, the judges and everyone else look at us and go ‘Uh-oh’. Jack Woolley is in the back with us and Mickey Joe Harte is stirring up a bit of trouble as well. We are having a great laugh.

“The Olympians are obviously really good. There are people who have improved a lot from week one too, so it is hard to tell. Jack Woolley is very athletic and he can do the splits up against the wall, which is pretty cool. Kayleigh Trappe is very good.”

Elaine added: “It is not something I ever imagined myself doing. But as I told you, I’m a changed person in the last year. I am seizing every bit of every day. I’m trying to reap every little bit of joy out of life that I can and if that involves me going on the biggest television show in Ireland, so what! What’s the worst thing that can happen?”

On New Year’s Eve, Elaine penned an emotional message to her followers after what has undoubtedly been a busy year for the telly presenter. Elaine shared a video including photos and images of her beloved family, including nephew Ultain who died in 2023, and the presenter urged her followers to ‘hug your people tight’.

She penned: “‘The life you live is the life you love’ – Lighting a candle for all those I love and all those I’ve lost. Hug your people tight this #newyearseve – every day is precious.”
