Edinburgh woman arrested after ‘police incident’ at city bypass

An Edinburgh woman has been arrested after a police incident on the city bypass.

Officers received reports of concern for a person at around 5.30pm on Monday, January 13. Drivers were caught in traffic on the bypass amid the incident, with closures in place as officers attended.

A 26-year-old woman has since been arrested and charged in connection. She is due to appear in court on Tuesday.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.30pm we received a report of concern for a person in the Bonaly Road area of Edinburgh.

“Officers attended and a 26-year-old woman was arrested and charged in connection. She’s due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday, 14 January.”

Rush hour drivers were caught in huge delays on Monday evening amid building traffic in both directions on the bypass.

The Traffic Scotland X account posted shortly before 6pm warning commuters of the situation. It posted: “A720 Hermiston-Dreghorn CLOSED in both directions due to a police incident.”

The Eastbound carriageway was closed at Hermiston while the westbound was shut at Dreghorn.

The account later added: “#A720 Hermiston-Dreghorn CLOSED in both directions due to a police incident E/B closed at Hermiston W/B closed at Dreghorn Police remain at scene- Traffic heavy in both directions tonight Updates as we get them.”
