Edinburgh train passengers taxied home after ‘disappointing’ eight-hour journey to London

Edinburgh passengers were taxied home by LNER after a string of delays on the London-bound service.

The train was due to leave Edinburgh at 6.30pm on Tuesday, though initially saw delays due to a collision. It left the capital around 40 minutes late.

Wilson Chowdhry, who was on the train, said later delays came after ‘an animal was killed on the tracks’. The service reached London King’s Cross at 2.41am – over three hours later than the 11.30pm scheduled arrival time.

“It’s first time I’ve missed her birthday. Generally I always have been there for it.”

LNER confirmed to Edinburgh Live that customers were supported by taxi marshalls to get them home. They added that the reason for the delays was due to ‘disruption on the network’.

Network Rail has been approached for comment.
