Coventry welcomed global music star Ed Sheeran to the city last week (January 9), where he met students and staff at schools and music venues to see the work they do for aspiring music students. The star visited Coventry Academy, Barr’s Hill School, and the TIN Music and Arts and met students from Lyng Hall, Coundon Court, President Kennedy, and Stoke Park.
The Shape of You singer heard the student’s original music pieces, learned more about their ambitions, and how music services in Coventry support their aims of breaking into the industry and helping them guide them towards achievable music careers.
To help more young people gain a career in the music industry, Ed also launched the Ed Sheeran Foundation to help young people who want a career in music to receive an inclusive, high-quality music education. The foundation has already helped 18 grassroots music organisations and state school music departments across the country. The foundation will help to improve access to instruments and performance opportunities and open doors into the music industry.
When visiting Coventry, Ed said: “Music education has shaped who I am. I’ve always enjoyed playing music, leading to some of my life’s best moments.”
