Pocklington’s household waste recycling site is set to close for 11 weeks from later this month while essential upgrade works take place.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council has announced the temporary closure of the facility, located in Pocklington Lane, Burnby, from Monday, January 20, to allow for the installation of a new drainage system.
The site is expected to reopen on Saturday, April 5. During this period, locals are advised to take their recyclables and waste to the nearest alternative household waste recycling site at Holme-On-Spalding-Moor/Market Weighton, around seven miles away, or any other local household waste recycling site in the area.
Originally, the recycling site was slated for improvements in September 2024, but the project was postponed. Councillor Paul West, the council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “The closure of this site is unavoidable, unfortunately. This work needs to be done.
“We know this will cause some inconvenience for local residents, but I want to thank them for their patience until this work is finished and it can reopen again.
“Residents won’t notice any difference on site, but this work is essential so we can upgrade the drainage.”
