Holiday makers using East Midlands Airport (EMA) are being urged to check their flight status as weather forecasters predict snow could hit Leicestershire this weekend. Airport officials say while flights are currently running as normal, passengers should stay alert for potential disruption as temperatures are set to drop to -2C.
The Met Office has today (Wednesday, January 1) issued a yellow warning for snow, which will be in place from noon on Saturday (January 4) until 9am on Monday (January 6). Forecasters say the wintry conditions could cause widespread travel disruption across the East Midlands region, with some rural communities at risk of being cut off.

A spokesperson for Castle Donington-based EMA said: “Our teams are closely monitoring conditions to ensure our operations run smoothly. Our services remain unaffected, but we do recommend passengers check directly with their airline for any updates.”
The Met Office warning indicates there is a chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel. They added that power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, could be affected.
Passengers are also being advised to check public transport services, which could be impacted by the adverse weather conditions. A widespread frost is expected overnight into Thursday, January 2.
