An earthquake is believed to have hit Scotland, near Kinloch, in the Highlands, earlier this evening, with locals reporting they felt the “ground shaking” near to Oban and the Isle of Mull.
Two websites are reporting the suspected quake. The British Geological Survey confirmed a 3.0 magnitude quake with a depth of 4km.
Meanwhile, Volcano Discovery stated: “A possible earthquake might have occurred near Oban, Scotland, United Kingdom, Sun, Jan 5, 2025 20:46 GMT.
“Details of the quake (if it is one) are so far unknown until confirmed by a seismic agency, but the event was reported felt. We will update the status of the event on this page as soon as more information becomes available.”
An earlier post said: “We are receiving unverified early reports of ground shaking possibly caused by seismic activity in or near Oban, Scotland, United Kingdom on 5 Jan 2025 (GMT) at approximately 20:45 GMT.
