€600 social welfare bonus update as payment dates changing after New Year

January is set to see a major €600 social welfare bonus update as new payment dates are announced.

From today a €12 increase in the maximum rate of all weekly payments and an €8 per child Child Support boost each week are among the new social welfare measures coming into effect.

Taoiseach Simon Harris, along with Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys, announced that over €1 billion in social protection measures will commence on January 1.

These increases, secured as part of Budget 2025, aim to provide additional support for pensioners, carers, people with disabilities, and low-income families.

And the measures, which will benefit over 1.5m people across the country, all start from January 1 onwards.

Announcing the January Social Protection measures, Taoiseach Simon Harris said: “I am so pleased to announce that over €1 billion worth of payment increases are to come into effect from today.

“The increases will benefit hundreds of thousands of families right across the country, including our carers, pensioners, lone parents and people with disabilities.

“I am particularly pleased that we have again increased the Child Support Payment and the Working Family Payment thresholds.

“These are both vital supports that help to reduce child poverty.”

One of the budget changes will see a €12 increase in the maximum rate of all core weekly payments, which will benefit over 1.4m people.

Alongside this, there will be proportionate increases for Qualified Adult dependents.

While those availing of the Work Placement Experience Programme can expect a €24 hike from today.

The budget provides a variety of key payment increases targeted at families.

Working Family Payment thresholds will increase by €60 per week for all family sizes from today.

This will provide additional financial support for low-income families and more households will become eligible for the payment as a result of this increase.

An increase of €20 in the monthly rate of Domiciliary Care Allowance today will bring the payment to €360 per month.

This increase is to support people who play a valuable role in Irish society – parents or guardians who look after a child with a severe disability.

Meanwhile this week, a social welfare payment will be increased to €1700 per month as eligibility criteria has been widened for the bonus.

The Carer’s Allowance income disregard will increase by €625 for a single person and €1,250 for a couple, from July 2025.

This means that applicants can earn more before being excluded from the eligibility criteria for the social welfare benefit.
